Sustainable Fish City is an initiative created and supported by an alliance of not-for-profit organisations already working on sustainable seafood issues.

The aim is for London to become the first ever Sustainable Fish City, to show the rest of the world what can be done if individuals and organisations make responsible decisions and change their buying and eating habits.

Across the globe, people are eating more fish than they used to, and a large percentage of it is being caught by destructive and wasteful methods. We are now seriously at risk of losing some species from our seas forever. Scientists estimate that, if we carry on fishing the way we do today, most of the world’s fish stocks could collapse within our lifetimes.

Millions of people depend on fish to survive and for their livelihood, so this would have a devastating effect on social and ecological consequences.

The good news is that there’s still time to do something about it. Join the campaign and choose seafood caught from sustainable sources only. Please sign up at the Sustainable Fish City Website.

Below is a selection of photos from the SFC stand at the Thames Festival 2011. Visitors were invited to send a message to London’s restaurants about sustainable fish. Throughout the day, SFC campaigners received over 200 messages for restaurants, showing how much people care about the future of fish, wildlife and marine ecosystems.
